One of the most important skills that learners need in order to develop a strong number sense, and subsequently, maths mastery is Patterns. Mathematics is after all patterns. Learners need to study a pattern, observe it, form a hypothesis, and complete the pattern. This will allow them to explore, apply and identify patterns in the number system, operations, and math functions and formulas and use them to solve mathematical problems. That is why it is important for teachers to spend time teaching Patterns in the early years of learning to ensure that learners can identify patterns across shapes, colours, objects, and numbers for them to master maths.
Teachers will be able to plan and implement teaching and learning strategies to foster learner conceptual knowledge, application, and fluency with patterns.
