Check for Understanding with Slates

Module Description

Teachers need formative assessments to understand what their students do and do not know. By using slates or whiteboards, teachers are able to quickly assess the progress of their students and whether any of them are facing struggles. The technique can be used across a variety of content areas provided that teachers provide clear directions, leverage wait time for students to complete the task, monitor their responses, and deepen student thinking by following up clarifying misconceptions or discussing big ideas or concepts.

Module Objectives

Teachers will be able to check students’ understanding by directing students share responses on Slates or whiteboards and be able to identify student misconceptions.
