Introducing Learners to Geometry

Module Description

Geometry is the network of concepts, ways of reasoning and representation systems used to explore and analyse shape and space. A rich and clear understanding of geometry is essential to prepare learners to be mathematically literate citizens in the 21st century. In this module, teachers will design lesson plans that foster learners’ understanding of parallel and perpendicular lines, triangles, squares and rectangles. By focusing on definition and exemplification, this module will equip teachers with the tools to design impactful lesson plans to introduce geometry.

Module Objectives

  • Plan and implement teaching and learning strategies to support learners´ understanding of lines, triangles, squares and rectangles.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the key practices (defining, exemplification and using multiple representations) that involve geometry.
  • Be able to effectively teach geometry to their relevant grade using various strategies for subject mastery.
